Learn the basics of extrude tool in PTC Creo Parametric and its user interface | Creo tutorials
In this Creo tutorial, you will learn the basics of extrude tool in PTC Creo parametric and also about the user interface of the extrude tool. While reading this tutorial you are suggested to open the Creo software on your desktop and learn and use it parallelly. So that you can easily understand this tutorial and on the other hand more questions will raise on your mind. It will make you creative while designing. Let us begin with our topic basics and user interface of extrude tool in Creo Parametric.
About the Extrude tool
Extrude tool is used to create a solid or surface feature. Extrude tool linearly extrudes the two-dimensional sketch perpendicular to the sketching plane for a predefined distance or up to the reference surface. The main function of extrude tool is that to add or remove material by extruding the sketch.
Activating the extrude tool
As extrude tool is available in the part modeling window go to New and select type as part and subtype as solid. Then select the template based on the unit system. Now, you are in the part modeling window. To activate the extrude tool follow the below procedures carefully.
- Go to the model tab in the part modeling window.
- Select the sketching plane.
- Then you can either select extrude and then start sketching or select sketch and then extrude the sketch.
- The extrude tool is in the shapes group of the model tab.
- The extrude tab will be now opened as a separate window.
About Extrude user interface
Solid extrude
The solid extrude is used to create a solid feature. Solid extrude is selected by default in Creo parametric.
Surface extrude
The surface extrude is used to create a surface feature. It linearly extrudes the sketch as a surface perpendicular to the sketching plane.
Depth options
Extrude depth options are used to control the extrude by using some conditions. There are six types of extrude options available in Creo parametric. They are,
- Blind
- Symmetric
- To next
- Through all
- Through until
- To selected
Depth value
The depth value is used to provide the dimension of depth. This option is visible based on the depth option selected. Because, some depth options such as, to next, through all, to selected does not need depth value. You can type the depth value in the text box or also you can enter the depth value in the graphics window.
Flip tool
The flip tool is placed next to the text box of depth value. The flip tool is used to change the direction of the extrude. Just clicking the flip tool will change the direction of the extrude.
Remove material
As we know extrude is used to add or remove material by adding some depth value to the sketch. The remove material tool is used to remove the material from the existing extruded sketch. Sometimes remove material features will be automatically selected. If there is no need to remove the material then unselect the remove material feature.
Thicken tool
Thicken tool is used to add thickness to the sketch to create a thickened solid. The value of thickness can be entered in the text box. The flip tool given next to the thicken tool is used to change the direction of the thickness.
This is the end of this Creo tutorial. In this Creo tutorial, we have discussed the extrude feature in Creo parametric. And also, we have discussed the user interface of the extrude tab. I suggest you practice this tutorial using some examples.
Practice more and learn daily. HAPPY LEARNING!!!
